Recommended speakers

Room sizes are the largest room giving the full measurement result at 35 dB(A) background noise, from the Loudspeaker Check — where you can also check any speaker not listed here.

Use it in music mode — speak mode loses the 125 Hz band, and the MOS score is then calculated without its Bass Ratio.

About these figures
  • All figures come from the manufacturers' datasheets; room sizes assume a 2.8 m (≈9.2 ft) ceiling. A quieter room allows a larger room, a noisier one a smaller one.
  • 175 (≈1,880 sq ft) is where the check stops: 500 (≈17,700 cu ft) at a 2.8 m (≈9.2 ft) ceiling, the largest volume DIN 18041 covers for video-conference rooms. 35 dB(A) is the background-noise limit DIN 18041 recommends for meeting rooms.
  • JBL Xtreme 4 — no maximum level published; its room size is an estimate from the 70 W battery rating.
  • Cisco Room Bar / Room Bar Pro — level published without a measuring distance; 1 m assumed (±3 dB).
  • Typical JBL portable — class average of the Clip 5, Flip 6 and Charge 5; the widest uncertainty of the set.
  • JBL Clip 5 — its 45 mm (≈1.8 in) driver may also lose the 125 Hz band.

Supported connections

  • Bluetooth (preferred)
  • AirPlay — needs WLAN access!
  • USB-C or HDMI (wired) — the cable limits where you can stand while measuring

Pick the speaker as the Output device on Step 1 of the acoustic flow.

What to look for (quick)

  • Powered speaker, clean output 80 Hz–15 kHz+
  • Loud enough for the room — the maximum sound level tells you, the wattage alone does not: check it in the Loudspeaker Check
  • Stable placement on a stand at ~1.3 m (≈4.3 ft) (seated head height)
