3D Model Standards

Every catalog item has two halves: the data BMR stores about it (see Anatomy of a Catalog Item) and the 3D model itself. This page covers the model. Any model added to the BMR catalog must meet the standards below — the rules apply whatever 3D application you use, only the final export has to conform.

Follow the summary, tick every box on the pre-flight checklist, then send.

Requirements at a glance

AreaRequirement
FormatSingle .glb with embedded textures (preferred). .usdz accepted if fully self-contained.
Geometry≤ 50,000 triangles. Origin at the object centre. Model faces −Y. Scale & rotation applied; location not applied. Static geometry only.
UVsOne UV channel per mesh, valid and non-overlapping. Screen surfaces fill the full 0–1 UV space.
MaterialsPBR metallic-roughness only. Each material uniquely named — ProductName_PartName (e.g. EasyRoomDesk_Frame). Any screen material's name must start with Screen (e.g. Screen_ProductName).
TexturesPNG or JPEG, embedded, sized 512 / 1024 / 2048 px square. Never above 2048. Normal maps use the OpenGL (+Y) convention, not DirectX.
SceneMesh + materials only. No lights, cameras, hidden objects, rigs, animation, drivers, or custom properties.

Pre-flight checklist

Tick every box before submitting — this is the definition of done.

  • ☐ Model is ≤ 50,000 triangles
  • ☐ Origin sits at the object centre; model faces −Y
  • ☐ Scale and rotation applied; location not applied
  • ☐ One UV channel per mesh, valid and non-overlapping
  • ☐ Screen surface (if any) fills the full 0–1 UV space
  • ☐ PBR metallic-roughness materials, uniquely named
  • ☐ Screen material (if any) uses the Screen prefix
  • ☐ Textures are PNG or JPEG, embedded, ≤ 2048×2048 px
  • ☐ Normal maps use the OpenGL (+Y) convention
  • ☐ No lights, cameras, or hidden objects in the scene
  • ☐ No animation, rigs, skeletons, or keyframes
  • ☐ No drivers, expressions, or custom properties left in
  • ☐ Exported as a single self-contained file (.glb preferred)

Submitting your model

Once every checklist item is ticked:

  1. Export as a single self-contained file.glb preferred; .usdz accepted — with all textures embedded.
  2. Include a short description covering name, brand, and the intended placement type (floor / wall / ceiling / tabletop).
  3. Send both to office@bettermeetingrooms.com. The BMR team reviews the submission against these standards and reaches out if anything needs adjusting before the model is published.

The model is only half of a catalog entry. For how a full item — model and data — gets added, see Requesting a Catalog Item.
