Requirements by Category
Every item shares the common backbone — name, model, dimensions, image. On top of that, the data an item needs depends on its category. A video collaboration device needs ports and placed devices; an acoustic panel needs absorption values; a chair needs none of that.
The catalog has many categories, but they group into a handful of families that share a data profile.
Category families
AV & Video Collaboration
Screens, video bars, codecs, cameras, microphones, speakers, control devices, audio/video extenders and converters, and other AV gear.
- Ports — the connectors the device exposes, used for cable routing
- Placed devices — cameras, microphones, speakers and screens positioned on the 3D model, used for coverage overlays
- Relevant feature flags — Screen, Camera, Microphone, Has Speaker, Touch, Is Mount
Acoustic Treatment
Panels, clouds and bass traps.
- Absorption values per octave band — 125 Hz to 8 kHz
- Per-unit toggle — interpret values per square metre (default) or per unit (bass traps)
- Panel width and height — used for area-based acoustic calculations
- Feature flag — Acoustic
Furniture & Décor
Chairs, tables, plants, boxes and similar.
- Size, colour, material, image and 3D model
- Mounting — typically Floor or Table
- No ports, no acoustic data
Connectivity & Mounting
Outlets and mounting hardware.
- Outlets carry ports and appear in the Cable Guide as connection points
- Mounting hardware sets the Is Mount flag and its compatible surfaces
Composite & Unclassified
Bundles group several items together; Other and Uncategorized are the catch-all while an item is being triaged.

The SKU / model number is how an exact component is identified — always capture it when an item has one. It's the single most valuable field for telling near-identical variants apart.
As new fields are added to the catalog, they slot into this matrix as new rows — the families stay the same, the data they carry grows over time.
